Our 2006 Vintage Report

The region experienced a favourable spring which resulted in good growing conditions. A warm to hot summer followed with near average rainfall.

The ideal weather conditions prevented any pest and disease incidence and timely rain events kept vigor at manageable levels in the vineyard. This led to good growth and ripening conditions right through to vintage. Both the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz experienced a reduced flower set and some extreme temperatures in January affected the yields.

Fruit from the Cabernet and Shiraz vines ripened early and was picked in late March resulting in wines with higher alcohol backed with exceptional intense fruit flavours.

The 2006 Shiraz is the second label released under the Malone brand from vines that were planted on the family property in 1998. A small parcel of premium fruit was selected for this wine from a low yielding section of the vineyard. The grapes were fermented and hand plunged in small open slate fermenters,  they were then matured in American oak barrels for 24 months.

The 2006 Malone Shiraz has been recognized for its quality in being awarded the Trophy for Best Shiraz at the 2008 Limesone Coast Wine Show.
